School project, can you give a quick response?

Hey guys,

so I have to do a project for one of my grad courses on how technology has changed the way adolescents interact with society. I figured there was no better place to go than to a group of them who are part of a gaming community!

So if you guys could just tell me your age and give me your opinions on these questions, it would be greatly appreciated

-What forms of technology do you us to interact with others? (Forums/Blogs/Facebook/Myspace/Etc.etc.)
-Do you feel that your views towards adults are any different than other adolescents because of these communications?
-If so, how do they differ?
-Do you feel that you have any different (positive or negative) views towards people of other racial/ethnic/religious/social groups because of these?
-How do you feel these resources will impact society as we continue to advance?

I use forums, instant messengers, telephone, webcams, and ventrilo ;D

I treat em more equal to myself, but with the same respect I'd give an adult in real life

I feel I hate canadians more... and Israelis.... (just online though, canadians in real life tho... but thats just a troll)

-How do you feel these resources will impact society as we continue to advance?
more universal opinions/general view will be born, more imaginative/creative ideas will be found, the english language will change at a faster pace and more cultures will be pushed to learn it >.>

kids are getting dumber and dumber. Even thought they sit on a computer all day long on facebook they nothing about the computer they are on. Most people i talk to in real life can't hold up a conversation because they have no knowledge of the world. Kids also just cheat through school because they can either google it on their phones or text each other the answer. Which means they aren't really learning anything.

I'm 18 male and go to PSU... I see nothing but cheating in every exam i take.

Edit : I also hate ppl from canada

hehe it looks like a fun paper to write about and some parents need to read more about tech cos the kids today are getting dumber and more disrespectful everyday.
Im 21 from NE Philadelphia.

1-I only use phone and internet(email mostly) to interact with people.
I do have a facebook and myspace but i barely log on cos i don't really like them.

2-Yup.

3-I think a lot of people are getting more and more disrespectful everyday with the idea that they think they're cool if they do so.I would say that music is a factor(rap mostly)where singers sing about them having bitches around them and that makes them cool somehow.Some of them are just dumb ex-Chamilionare's song " Ridin' "he says something about a Play Station controller and its so clear that the person in the video clip is holding a Xbox controller.

I saw a show(forgot name) about this earlier but it was about a girl who isolated herself from the outside world and went on the computer as soon as she finished school and stayed in it till 3-4am.She started to be mean to her family then the daily people she saw at school at a point where she failed the 11th grade just because she didn't want to listen to what anyone in the real world advised her to do.

4-Not really.People online dont act the same way they act in real life.There is no point in hating a whole country/race/religious etc just because someone did something wrong.Thats just a dumb generalization.A lot of people like to put someone down to feel better about themselves.
I can use a rakion example on this one.A lot of people in Europe server say bad things about turks.I went there last summer(3 days in Istanbul and 3 days in Ankara)They got a different culture from us and i did find it weird but overall they are nice and welcoming people.

CydonianRazr can u specifically say why u hate Canadians?i know like 5 Canadians in real like and they're all cool.Even the ones in my clan in rakion are cool so i don't see any reason to hate them.

As for ark i dont blame him he sounds like a Gothic emo.I wonder what campus of PSU he goes to.My gf goes to Abington and i go there a lot to pick her up or to play soccer sometimes with my friends there.If i recall correctly Jinstur goes there too.

This may be for the young'ns to answer but I wanted too as well considering that I grew up in a time when there was no cell phones, pagers were very..very rare, no internet...no caller ID...lol

* I use texting, cell phones, facebook primarily. Even in Rakion I wouldn't say I interact much, I usually just play. I don't talk much nor do I pay attention to game chat and /c chat.

* I will flip this question and say that my view toward adolescents has definitely changed.

* Assuming the young person is fairly mature (and that can be quite an assumption with some of the people in rakion...lol) I would say that I view younger people more as equals than I had before. I may have more experience with life in general but a typical 20 year old does not act much different than I, they are just a bit more spry :p

* This one has the biggest effect on me due to this change in interaction via new technology. People often have had these stereo-types about different races/ethnicities/religions. But when you don't see this person face or hear their accents, if you don't know already..you can't tell if that person is black, white, Asian, or alien (lol). When you only communicate with words on a screen, it is amazing how different it is. I find that people are just people at that point. Color means nothing. I wish the rest of the world saw this already.

* I am hoping as we progress with this new technology that the barriers that separate people become less obvious. If I am any example of how it has changed me I see it being a good thing. But I am worried that I am not the norm. I do see young people that don't get enough real world interaction and I think that is crucial.

And Nodman, that movie looks freak'n hilarious. I was 14 in 1986 so I am sure I will relate to it lol. Can't wait!

Well they are stuck up and thing they are better than americans for no reason.
The way they talk is just annoying.
Canada is like the weird, crazy untan, cousin your family makes you talk to. unlike the cool drug dealer cousin mexico.
Its a national pastime to hate canada in america.
And they are super bitchy lol
