If I were to have fraps save to my external, would that help out my fps while its recording?

doubt having the fraps save to ur external would help ur fps.

if anything it would lower it down even more, due to the USB 2.0 throughput.

just save it to ur main hd, save it to external later, and degfrag often.

you could also reduce quality and resolution when using fraps to record, that would put less strain on your video card and possibly let u maintain a good frame rate.

Well, you've probably already checked this, but if you select a frame rate to record at, it wont let you go any higher. So if you leave it checked at 30 you'll cap at 30 and be all laggggy Sad

be sure to keep it at 60

Ya its at 60, but I record with high quality. Its not bad unless I'm fighting then you get results like that ninja clip.

when i recorded my movie thingie. it was at half size with my fps set to like 20-something or something. but i did recording on another hdd and stuff. smooth as a whistle. and the quality wasnt that bad. look at it in facebook in Rakion Softnyx profile videos or something like that if u havent seen it. but yeah the hdds were set on SATA tho.

As long as it's a USB 2.0 and you're not outputting a ridiculous frame rate, yes. I record uncompressed video to an esata drive.
