Hello, This is RIS Team.
Happy new year!!
In this new year of 2010, softnyx is upgrading our network system to improve network efficiency between users.
This upgrade is for our P2P system to be more efficient between users by limiting the network problems between users, and it should lessen the network problems users are currently facing.
Our RIS Team is constantly working to improve the gaming environment.
We will try our best to meet the expectation and achieve our goals for the year 2010.

In the current P2P model for Rakion, all players send all other players all events. There is way too much data being set to convey what is currently happening plus it also allows for hacks by being careless (instant death, instant game over, grip hacks, mage bombs everywhere, chaos / respawn everyone, even disconnect hack). For instance since all players send all other payers all events, an event about anything can come from anyone even if it dosent make sense.
Player A can tell player B that player C just killed player D even though player A had nothing to do with anything, and player B has no choice but to believe it.
I think from the message on the site, the idea is that the network will make a little more sense in sending only data that is needed an thereby disallowing a lot of hacks that result from carelessness of the network design.
In a big cell game Rakion uses about 70 ~ 100 kbps, but if the network becomes truely effecient then that should be down to like, 30 ~ 50, but ms wont be any better.
Also if you cannot make a direct P2P connection because of a firewall or somthing, then the master of the room acts like a server where you send packets to the master who then sends them to the players that you cannot send them to directly. This means that if you have 110ms to the master and the master has 100 ms to the player you cannot directly connect with, then the effective ms you have to them is 210ms. This is also known as bug ms, perhaps they are trying to find a better solution for that as well. |
