What did you guys think of it?

I'm more curious to what you guys thought of the whole SeeD idea it used in game if you've played it.

I own it, and I've played through it once.

I actually sat down about a year ago and started playing again, but it's not as fun the second time through. In my first playthrough I did most of the major side quests and came pretty close to "100%"ing the game.

I had a lot of fun with the junction system though, that was very innovative and creative, something we've all come to love from Square. I very much so liked how it replaced armor and weapons (Although the upgradable weapon recipes from the magazines were fun to hunt down the parts for), as it just added a lot of depth to the whole experience.

The only major complaint I had was how ineffective it was to use your more powerful magic spells. Certain spells like Ultima and Triple and Curaga and Flare and Death and Break ect. are so vital for boosting your stats, that you make yourself weaker by using them. Not to mention finding draw points for these rare magics are hard as hell to find, and yield very few per draw. Also, any monster with rare magic to draw from is too much of a risk to fight for long enough to get any moderate amount of magic from either. I mostly ended up focusing on chars with fast, powerful melee and limit breaks with many attacks for maximum damage (This means Squall's Renzokuken, Zell's Duel and Irvine's Rapid fire for maximum amount of attacks with a 9999 damage cap) since I could not find any other way to maximize my damage potential (A must in any final fantasy game).

That simple complaint aside, I had a lot of fun with it. The graphics are old (it came out 10 years ago ffs) but not an eyesore. The effects are nice. I like the whole GF system in general.

I like that the Final Fantasy series keeps the same core gameplay (Roam the earth story based RPG random encounter FUN) but re-engineers the entire leveling / character system every release. I've played every Final Fantasy save for FF5 and 6 (All assuming US numbering), and I'll probably go pick up the classics disc for PS1 one of these days and play them through, but FF8 is definately worth sitting down and playing if you're a fan of the series as a whole.

Ties for second place with Chrono Cross for PS1 Games. Like Homen said, using magic in battle is useless and juctioning it will be much more useful. The game is easy once you understand the mechanics. It's fun and the purpose of playing it is for the story, not the game. There's a mini game, Triple Triad, that will allow you to earn cards which you can convert to magic. The highest tier of spells can be drawn from the Island closest to Hell. As long as you have no encounters equipped, all you have to do is run around pressing X. The ultimate weapons are easy to obtain too. Very relaxing game.
FF9 is waaaaaayyyyyyyyyy better though.

Ah well, I've played the game and almost 100%'d it myself already, well except for Omega on that f'ing impossible island lol.

I was more curious to the SeeD program that Balamb Garden was using.

I've been bored with actually playing games so I went back to my game project I started last year. Me and the few others that bailed on me which caused me to bail, had decided on using somewhat of a similar to SeeD system instead of the normal levelling system. Therefore, to progress to further/more difficult locations in the MMO, you had to actually prove you could be useful there.

We were working on a similar environment to Balamb Garden cause I love it, but I wanted to see if its an idea that would even catch on, before continuing work on it myself.

I started playing this, but I really couldn't get to grips or enjoy the Drawing systenm for the magic and also the junctioning system O.o?... It was really annoying! I much preffered the Materia system in VII, and the learning from objects system in IX. I never completed VII So I can't say If I would of enjoyed it more than 7 and 9, but I just couldn't enjoy the first 3/4 hours of gameplay and so didn't continue.

@Homen
i kinda disagree on ur complains about 8, you could get so many magics from the GFs abilities.I made so many items n used the + abilities of the GFs that i actually capped all stats w/o using the magics for help in the junction menu.
My only complain on 8 was that it was too easy. The "ultima weapon" blowed.I used Squall,Zell n rinoa as players. Why rinoa?simple invincible moon limit break.Cerberus,Aura on all characters and Limit break till u kill the enemy(equip drain as an effect magic).the only attack that actually hurt me was armageddon(not sure if that was the name)that reduced ur hp to 1,other attacks blowed. The max damage that they did on me was 3-4k which was "Shockwave pulsar".You could make "The End" magic(from GFs abilities)and kill every enemy with 1hit(except the final boss).

The soundtracks we the best of all ffs.my fav balamb city's music when u go to the hotel n sea.i used to run around there just for a song lol

ff7 was probably the hardest one, main and secondary quests.I was lv99 and i bearly beat the Weapons(i think ruby was the hardest one). The chocobo races were mad fun.
ff9 i was like wtf is going on for a big part of the game.they did explain everything near the end though. It was kinda good to go back to classes(Thief, knight ,summoner n mage )
ff10 was probably the best.idk where to start from on that one so im not gonna.

ff13 looks kinda good and if i saw correctly u can use the summons like a player again like in 10.Kinda surprising they used a girl as main but hey they need to come up with new ideas n this one looks promising.cant wait for that noise.

PS.
Anthyny i think u got the wrong ff Shocked Ultima weapon was in the Castle near the big ass Organo.Somewhere at the castle u rang a bell then u had to run there to fight it.(room right after the fountain)

No, Ultima weapon is in the last floor at the place where you fight Bahumat. The one in the castle is Omega.

Lol. None of this has been helpful to my original query, but I'm glad everyone else appreciated the game as much as I did.

I love Belle.

As for your original SeeD query, I liked it. It was new and different... It made getting money for stuff just automatic, which was nice because I didn't have to sell items that I might potentially want at a future date. It also forced me to learn a little more about the actual game and such.
