I am about to share with you guys some huge developments in the future of video games (and some shameless advertising Embarassed

).

OnLive, which has been secretly in development for the past 7 years, will be launching THIS winter with what it calls 'the future of video games.'

OnLive allows you to play the best games INSTANTLY like FEAR 2, Crysis, and Bioshock without downloading and on almost any computer... like a shitty PC or a Mac!

Games are basically hosted on their super computers (made possible with cloud computing) and the game is 'broadcasted' to your computer like TV. Oh, you can play games on your TV with the special hardware, or just with an internet connection for computers. But that's basically all you need, internet.

I personally think this is going to change the way we game so I started a forum/site all about OnLive. Please register! I know the site is bare as I just launched it but I will be updating it frequently. Thanks.

yes but is it not true that you have to suscribe monthly to get the games but they're not permanent unless you chose to purchace them plus its quite pricey (from what i hear)

well i dont think a 95 laptop would work falcon >_>. most comps from 95 could barely play a video file. Since your getting a video stream of the game your playing im assuming your comp should at least be able to handle HD video. You can get a 10-20 dollar video card now that cant do that.

For onlive to work you first have to have a decent connection speed. The CEO was saying that 1.5 meg connection is needed for SD (480p) and a 5 meg for HD quality. The games stream at 60fps too

depending on where they put the servers i think this might actually work. i get 13 ms when i do a speed test with a server in cali (which is 250 miles from where i live). At GDC when they were demoing their service the CEO said that the server they had set up was 50 miles away. So it sounds like they have to put these super server centers up in each city to make this happen. I still kinda think that this is just going to be a lag fest, but the guy said he spent 7 years making this thing so i think everyone should at least give it a shot.

another thing im worried about is pricing. It sounds like there's gonna be a monthly service fee just to use onlive and you have to pay additional for the games you wanna play. You can rent/buy a game but they dont have any specifics on pricing. I don't think it'll be worth it if they still charge full price for the games.

I really hope this isnt a lagfest but the guy said he worked on it for 7 years so we should at least give it a shot when it comes out.

Lol, I just pulled that year out of my ass, but the capabilities of OnLive is intriguing. Mac users will finally be able to play all the popular PC games they want, although they were starting too anyways, but not at such a large extent. And for people like me who don't have an expensive gfx card, I think this will greatly increase accessibility for high-end games around the world.

I definitely hope that they have been honing this cloud gaming the past 7 years. It does sound too good to be true.
