I put a couple simple filters in place because I knew somebody would use a derogatory term for homosexuals to describe another team.

I agree that there are better word choices that could be made, but that also stops legitimate usage of the word.

Not at all. I will generalize a bit because there are exceptions in every group of people.
Retarded people realize their deficiency, so calling something that is stupid "retarded" is not putting them down it is merely using a synonym.
But to use G-ay as a synonym for lame or unfair is not the same. You are taking a very clearly defined word and using it to put down an unrelated matter. That is by definition derogatory.

Yeah, Strokke's right, youre pulling both of those examples out of the context of the original question.
The point is that when people use that term, that using it outside of its original meaning, making it derogatory. Using a word as its intended to be used, like calling a retarded person retarded, is merely stating what they are. Calling a non-homosexual person that, IS derogatory due to that person probably isn't homosexual.
The exampe you gave 123g, was describing something, as an adjective, and not naming something.
There IS a difference between saying "You are ***", and "What you just did is ***" |

Yeah like I said there are always examples in all groups the defy what I view as the norm. I've seen people who didn't mind the use of the word, some who preferred mentally challenged, mentally handicapped, or just not mentioning it at all.
Same thing with dwarfs, little people, midgets.
Blacks, african americans, african, N-bomb
White, caucasian, European, crackers
There are going to be people in all groups that get offended by a particular term, we pick and choose our own battles I guess and the one I want to fight is the constant homophobia in our gaming culture.
