The concept of Rakion is an awesome one, it really was the kind of game that I was looking to play since I was 14 or so. That is, something similar to action games like Devil may cry and stuff like that in the sense that you are given free control of your character to move around and attack/defend in your own unique way, developing your own strategies to defeat your opponents, combined with it being MMO (kindof in Rakion's case) so you are fighting other intelligent people.

The problems with Rakion boil down to a couple of key things in my opinion (without getting into the games peer to peer nature). The first is implementation, I am sure most people who have played this game, myself included, agree that the concept of Rakion is excellent for the reasons I mentioned before, however there are alot of flaws on how Softnyx manages it. Softnyx seems to be lacking in a couple of key areas as a game company, first they don't seem to have a very talented programming staff, this is evident in the fact that there are still issues that arise every time they try to implement the most trivial things into the game for events and such. Also, there are the same stupid errors and crashes that have been happening since beta(contrary to late-comers beliefs that I started playing when I bought my blacksmith account at level 50, yes I was playing since closed beta in 2005).

The next area where I feel that Softnyx is lacking is content management. I feel that me and my clan could have done a better job managing content than whoever Softnyx had doing it, a perfect example of this is what happened right as I was quitting Rakion, the 100 point cap. First they raise the point cap to 100 with the same stat increases per point, then they say "OH NO WE DIDNT REALIZE WE WERE GOING TO MAKE THE GAME SO MUCH MORE UNBALANCED THAN IT ALREADY IS." So since they didnt think it through, people who paid for a restat got screwed over since a few days later they decided to change it and give restats to the people who didn't pay for one in addition to the people who did. Then they make the potions that cost cash purchasable with gold. When I first heard about that I had mixed feelings, I was pissed cause I spent alot for my potions, but I was pleasantly surprised that they were making a change to the game that didn't appear like a blatant attempt to rape us rich Americans in the ass again. Then they came out with that event where you could spend $100 of actual money to get a Rudolf suit(or Santa or something equally stupid), think about that for a second, with $100, you could go to a costume store and likely buy yourself 3 Rudolf suits, that are made of real fabric. Another part of Softnyx's "give us all your money" Christmas event was releasing the cap on PU. Now, I remember when they put the cap on PU soon after the game came out, I remember reading the notice that said "we realize that many members will be unable to control themselves so we are putting a 6 month cap on purchasable power users to keep Rakion balanced." The fact that they would actually remove that cap at any time, and if my sources are correct, actually not remove it after the event period, should throw red flags up to EVERYONE who plays, and especially those of you who have played since closed beta, that they obviously have no regard for game balance anymore and care solely about leeching as much money as they can from the very small community that exists now.

The other big problem with the game is the MMO aspect. As I said above it is exciting to play against other intelligent people in action games because everyone can develop their own strategies to compete. The problem here is that about 75% of the people who play Rakion are just above retarded.

Kidding aside, I would really like to open some kind of discussion as to how people can still take this game seriously, because even though I have quit and have no plans on ever playing again, I am curious as to why people do still play and if any of you feel the same frustration that I felt before I left the game.

i play to get my moneys worth before i head to Europe for 6 months. Do i plan on spending more cash? Maybe, but it won't be for a while since i can't buy any pu until 2011. Only time i'll charge is if theres something worth while coming out in an event.

I completely agree. Even though my friends and I had only been playing for a year (Dec 2006), we all agreed that this game was going down the drain due to Softnyx. So NewDawn broke up and we went to other games. Rakion really is an awesome game idea just run by a shitty company. GG to all the teams we played. I really wished we could have played Unforgiven again in the finals but atleast we got to play in the season.

i think rakion is still a good game... well halo 2,3 call of duty 2,4 crysis and WoW (to easy of a freakin game) are all the best games out there. sometimes we get burned out of those games and go to another good game. but we always go back to the same game.

i dont mind softynx takes my money, isnt it my fault that i gave my hard working money to the company?

so what about the pu thing, it was already unbalanced in the first place. even for the people that just played the game for the first time fighting a high level character that already has more than a year worth of pu.

whos fault that spend all there money trying to get to level 99? was it you or some one else that stats dont bring skill to the game.

there were people still staging during the christmas event, the only question i asked was are you a retard or are you a retard? its cheaper to buy pu and staging.

talking about unbalance, the blacksmith character itself is unbalanced than the other characters. raising the cap is not unbalance, it takes more skill to think that a mage wearing redmoon/darkmoon/runet hat is or is not a stun gripping mage. and oh god i hope that isnt a stun gripping warrior. or i hope that archer doesn't go in melee mode. now i see mages stun grip without any extra attack speed stats on the armor/weapons. i see new archers going melee half the time now instead of never. i see warriors doing 1v1 putting a bunch into grip.
so what im saying is you just got to think a bit harder, or is your brain uncapable to fast think anymore.
